Synopsis
Steppenwolf Theatre Company concluded its 1996-97 season with Jon Robin Baitz's A Fair Country, directed by Scott Zigler, director of the 1996 Steppenwolf Studio production of David Mamet's The Cryptogram. A Fair Country chronicles the complex web of social and moral pressures on an American family living in South Africa. Harry Burgess is a cultural attache stationed in Durban who finds that life under apartheid is destroying his family. In an effort to protect his wife and two sons, Harry makes a deal that allows his family to leave South Africa but destroys the trust he had hoped to build among them.Content Advisory
