Location and Parking

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is located at 1650 N Halsted Street in Chicago, IL, one block north of North Avenue (1650 N / 800W). It is easily reached by public transportation, car, bicycle, or foot.

 CONSTRUCTION ALERT:
If you are planning to take the I-90/Kennedy Expressway, please consider the ongoing construction project, and potential delays. If possible, consider alternative routes, utilize the CTA/Metra or leave earlier than usual.

Self-parking is available in the Steppenwolf parking garage located at 1624 N Halsted, approximately 150 feet south of the theater, on the same side of the street. Please note that the garage does not have an elevator. (For accessible parking options, please see below.) The cost is $17, and we accept credit cards for payments only.

It is possible for the demand for parking to exceed our capacity. For the best experience, please check out the parking tips and alternatives we list below.

Our new building has eliminated parking spaces in the open-air parking lot just south of the theater.

While the outside parking lot has gone away, we will continue to offer a good parking experience with options that include our parking garage, accessible parking spaces in the Front Bar parking lot (just north of the theater) and increased valet service.

If you find yourself arriving in the 30 minutes before your ticketed curtain time, please use your cell to call our parking when you’re a few blocks away from the theater – we’ll let you know if we still have space in our facility, or suggest an alternative.

Parking alert e-mails

For performances when we anticipate travel delays or our parking capacity being exceeded, we will e-mail a travel and parking alert to all ticketed patrons who have an e-mail address on file with us. If you want to make sure we have the correct e-mail address on file, please e-mail customerservice@steppenwolf.org.

We are proud to partner with Rapid Valet to offer valet parking service directly in front of our main entrance at 1650 N Halsted St. The cost is $17 – valet accepts cash or Zelle payments only.

Valet service is available starting at 5pm on weeknights, 1pm on weekends, and at 12 noon before Wednesday matinees. Cars will be held for up to 90 minutes after the conclusion of the final performance of the day.

Street parking

Some pay box street parking is available in the neighborhood, including on the stretch of Halsted in front of the theater. Enforced from 8am-10pm, pay boxes take both coins and credit cards, and can be fed for up to two hours. Street parking tends to fill up quickly and shouldn't be relied upon as a last-second option.

Lincoln Park Center parking facility

The Lincoln Park Center parking facility, located at the Southeast corner of North and Halsted, is a six-minute walk away from the theater and accepts both cash and credit cards. Please note that Steppenwolf does not validate for the Lincoln Park Center.

Restaurant valet service

Many of the restaurants in the neighborhood offer valet parking service for their diners. Please contact the specific restaurant for availability, information and rates.

For vehicles displaying disability placards or plates, there are five accessible parking spaces in our valet parking lot at 1700 N Halsted, just north of the theater. You do not need to check with an attendant – just park on your own, and visit the café in Front Bar to pay. You won’t have to go back to your car after you’ve paid – we’ll record your vehicle info and share it with our parking team so you don’t get towed.

These spaces are located near the entrance to Front Bar, which has push-button doors. Front Bar connects directly to the main lobby, so we suggest entering there.

If you want to avoid stairs but don’t have a disability placard or plates, we encourage you to take advantage of our valet service. Our parking garage does not have an elevator.

Red Line L: North Clybourn stop

From the station, walk east past the Apple Store to the corner of North and Halsted. Go a half block north on Halsted to the theater.

CTA Halsted Bus (#8)

The #8 Halsted bus runs North-South, and stops (in both directions) near the front of the theater at 1650 N Halsted.

CTA North Avenue Bus (#72)

The #72 bus runs East-West, and stops (in both directions) a half block south of the theater at the intersection of North and Halsted.

Taxis

Hailing a cab after your performance is typically a pretty easy affair. If you’d like assistance hailing a cab or calling a company, though, just ask a member of the house staff – we’re happy to help.

Biking?

There are places to lock up your bike in front of the theater, and we’re happy to hold onto your bags and helmet during the performance.
