About the Show
The “mostly performance, arguably music” Chicago-based collective Mocrep returns to the LookOut Series with a noisy yet mellifluous riff on twang, repetition, feedback and kitchen appliances. Simultaneously inspired by the myth of Narcissus and the music of Tammy Wynette, I Live Every Day holds a mirror a) in front of your face because you’re Just. So. Damn. Cute. b) under your mouth to make sure you’re still breathing and c) up to a menacing fuckwad of love and loss.
For whatever reason, Mocrep is enamored of, obsessed with, and borderline enmeshed in Tammy Wynette’s song “It’s My Way.” There's something very Narcissus-and-his-reflection about it; it's been going on for years. We’ll either get to the bottom of it or die and become a flower, white petals surrounding a yellow heart.
“I live every day for you, and I breathe every breath for you. So if I’m mean and make you blue, it’s my way of loving you."
— Tammy Wynette, "It's My Way"
“We are only kept apart by a little water! Where do you vanish when I reach for you?”
— Narcissus to his reflection, Ovid, Metamorphoses Book III

About the Artists
Mocrep is a Chicago-based group of artists making things together that we prefer not to explain overmuch—mostly performance, arguably music. We have also made things that could be theater or short films or zines or books. It is hard to agree internally about what makes Mocrep itself. One important distinction, for us, is that we create by consensus, meaning we all have to feel interested in the thing, at roughly the same time and to roughly the same degree, or else we let it go and come up with something that satisfies us all. Idealistically or naively or stubbornly, we feel that this creative agreement is good for us, our relationships and our engagement in civic life—and that it usually makes the show better, too.
Mocrep has been around since 2014. We have performed at the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Harris Theater for Music and Dance, and many other small and large venues around Chicago and on tour. Mocrep has been an artist in residence at Stanford University, Mills College, dfbrl8r Art Gallery and Mana Contemporary. We last played the LookOut Series in 2019.
