Synopsis

On a Spring day in 1886, a nationwide strike for the eight hour workday took place. A huge parade of striking workers marched down Michigan Avenue. Three days later, on May 4th, a troop of police encountered a demonstration at Haymarket Square. A bomb was thrown into the crowd of policemen. This incident sparked a chaotic riot and both strikers and police were killed. As the city reacted to the unprecedented violence of the clash, a fever seized the public opinion and eight major labor organizers were tried for murder. Haymarket Eight draws on the great characters of the time and the historical documents they left behind to tell this powerful story.
