Synopsis

This play is a celebration through poetry and prose, music and dance of the evolution of the Black female voice. The play traces the transitions in Giovanni's writing from the militancy of racial politics in the 1960s to the Black women's perspective in the 1980s and resolves itself, ultimately in a concern with the survival of the planet. This play was presented in partnership with the Chicago Park District as part of The Paul Robeson Theatre Series at the South Shore Cultural Center in February and March of 1997 and at Steppenwolf in April and May of 1997
