About Word Brothel

Humble Beginnings: The story of Word Brothel begins, as most do, about 3.7 billion years ago when the first organism crawled from the primordial soup covered in prebiotic broth, determined to do one thing: engage in the cosmic joke we call life. Over the next several billion years they evolved, yada yada yada, then they built computers. Some genius decided to connect them all together so that the greatest minds to ever grace the earth and the most unhinged, psychotic imbeciles would have an equal voice and power of influence. Out of that cybernetic soup of ideas, Word Brothel was born.

Part website with the intent to destroy the internet, part free satire magazine voted the Best Zine of 2021 by the Chicago Reader Poll and part collective of the funniest living comedians in Chicago, Word Brothel is back and freed from its pandemic constraints to bring the people mind-altering, edgy and thought-provoking live comedy. Their website and YouTube channel are filled with videos and articles that will likely be illegal in the near future thanks to America’s flirtation with fascism, so check them out before it’s too late!

About the Curls (musical guest):

The Curls are a high-octane American weirdo rock band marinated in the absurdist & dystopian groove influence of predecessors like Devo, The B-52s, Ween, Primus, R. Stevie Moore, Modest Mouse, Talking Heads and Can. Since 2014 The Curls have performed at Pitchfork Music Festival, SXSW and various film and arts festivals around the country, all the while maintaining a strict and spiritual DIY ethos. They’ve been featured in Pitchfork, Stereogum, the Chicago Reader, Aquarium Drunkard and even the NY Times Style Section for reasons unknown. They’ve opened for or toured with indie rock heavyweights like Tame Impala, Maps & Atlases, Bill MacKay, Post Animal, Diane Coffee, Dehd, Deeper, Wombo and The Goon Sax.
