INTRODUCING RISK FREE MEMBERSHIP

We were thrilled to bring you The Great Leap, Lindiwe, Dance Nation and Bug earlier this season. What we weren’t expecting was the sudden turn of events, which left our stages quiet and our hearts hopeful to return. We miss you!

Part of our mission statement includes the sentiment: “We invite you to join our ensemble as we navigate, together, our complex world...” and that has never felt more relevant than it does now.

Challenging times call for bold choices. Our artistic team and ensemble have been hard at work, and we are thrilled to present three new virtual projects that we will be sharing exclusively with you: our members. While we couldn't bring you every play this season, through these three projects we’re bringing you ensemble experiences so unique and unprecedented that even we don’t quite know what to expect.

  • (VIRTUAL) SEAGULL: Stacked with an ALL ensemble cast, a surprisingly intimate virtual reading of the play that will open our new theatre. Get closer than ever before to the magic of our ensemble and experience an insider’s peek into this extraordinarily funny and magical adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull. This member-exclusive content will be available for streaming May 14 – 27.

  • THE AMERICAN CLOCK: A huge cast of more than 30 Steppenwolf ensemble members tackle more than 50 roles in this radio play rendition of Arthur Miller’s kaleidoscopic view of the resilient, joyful spirit of the American people, set against the backdrop of the economic struggles of the 1930s. Steppenwolf invites you to sit back, power down your screens and let the power of a well-told story spark your imagination and touch your heart. Anticipated streaming in June.

  • IN THE RED AND BROWN WATER: Written by ensemble member Tarell Alvin McCraney and directed by his longtime collaborator, ensemble member Tina Landau, these two artists will revisit the play first produced at Steppenwolf in 2010 as part of The Brother/Sister Plays. Incorporating the music, chants and sounds of this magical world that Tarell has created, this virtual reading will feature many ensemble members reprising their roles along with some very special guests. Anticipated streaming in July.

It is our greatest wish that this distinctive new content—with momentous ensemble participation—shows how much we thank you, we miss you and we can’t wait to see you back in the theatre. Join us as we navigate this new way of connecting with you!

19/20 SEASON PROGRAMMING CHANGES & MEMBER TICKET OPTIONS

While we weren’t able to produce The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington, King James and Catch as Catch Can this season as originally planned, we are pleased to share that Steppenwolf is committed to producing all three of these productions in the 21/22 season and we can’t wait to bring them to the stage.

Our ability to produce great art, pay our artists and staff and work toward the future is directly tied to ticket revenue. In this time, our time of greatest need, our appreciation runs deeper than we can express for your understanding and support as we work to bring you virtual content in lieu of the canceled 19/20 productions.

We do realize that these are challenging times for all of us: if you do not wish to apply your ticket value to access these member-exclusive virtual experiences, please call us at 312-335-1650 to discuss alternate options, which include a credit toward your next season’s membership.

We expect to have an update on any potential changes to the 20/21 season in mid-June; we will keep you informed about the season ahead as we learn more. If you have any questions, please call our remote Audience Services team at 312-335-1650. We’d love to hear from you. Your continued support today will help keep theatre alive in the future.

RENEW TODAY TO HELP RESTORE TOMORROW

We are working hard to hang on both to you and to the ability to exist in this unprecedented time. Through our new podcast series, virtual workshops and the events listed above—in many ways our Steppenwolf family is working more closely than ever under these extraordinary circumstances. And when the time is right, we will retake the stage and we want you to be there. Renewing today helps us restore tomorrow!
