Laura Eason

Laura Eason is the author of more than 15 plays, both original work and adaptations. Previous productions at Steppenwolf include Sex with Strangers (First Look '09), When the Messenger is Hot (First Look '07, also at 59E59, NYC and Theatre Schmeater, Seattle), A Tale of Two Cities, Huck Finn and two Steppenwolf Traffic programs in Millennium Park, Dream Chicago and Citizens of the World. Regional productions of her full length plays include Rewind (side project), Around the World in 80 Days (Baltimore Centerstage, Kansas City Rep, Lookingglass), Tom Sawyer (Hartford Stage), The Ghost's Bargain (Two River Theater, NJ), Area of Rescue (Andhow Theatre, NYC), The Coast of Chicago (Walkabout Theatre, Chicago), In the Eye of the Beholder (Lookingglass, Touchstone Theatre, PA) and 28 (Lookingglass). Productions of her short plays include Jack and the Collection, (WET, NYC), Lost in the Supermarket (Vital Theatre, NYC), and It Was Fun While it Lasted... (ATC, Chicago). Upcoming productions in the '10 - '11 season include Ethan Frome at Lookingglass, Sex with Strangers at Steppenwolf and a short play in The Silver Project at ATC. Laura's plays have also been developed at Rattlestick, New Georges, New York Theatre Workshop and MCC in New York and regionally at Steppenwolf, Hartford Stage, American Theatre Company and SF Playhouse, among others. Her work is published by Playscripts, Smith & Kraus and Broadway Play Publishing where she is a former playwright of the year. Laura is an Affiliated Artist of New Georges and a playwright member of the Women’s Project Lab, both in New York, and an Ensemble Member and the former Artistic Director of Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago. Laura is a graduate of the Performance Studies Department of Northwestern University and has received Jeff Awards for new work and adaptation.
