In Memory

Last June, Alba Biagini, a longtime subscriber and donor of Steppenwolf, passed away at the age of 79. Ms. Biagini grew up in South Chicago and lived in the Calumet Heights house that her parents built. She was a Chicago Public School teacher and taught biology in the Chicago Public Schools at Englewood, Washington and Bowen High. She was a Bowen alumna herself and received her undergraduate degree from the Chicago Teachers College and her Master of Science degree in biology from the University of Chicago. In the 1950s Ms. Biagini was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach at a teachers’ training college in England where she developed life-long friendships with many British colleagues. She was also a recipient of the Kate Maremont Foundation Award for Outstanding Teacher. She was an active attendee of Steppenwolf, Lyric Opera, Goodman Theatre and Court Theatre. Ms. Biagini left a significant gift to Steppenwolf in her will, which has been designated for new play development.
