Gala 2005, Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s premiere fundraising event of the Season, Saturday, April 9, will be a milestone occasion for our theater company as we honor one of Chicago’s most important treasures, the celebrated Steppenwolf ensemble. Extraordinary theater and remarkable festivities will make this a once-in-a-lifetime special event: ensemble member John Malkovich returns to the Steppenwolf stage and cofounder Gary Sinise, performing with his “Lt. Dan Band,” rocks the post-performance dinner party.
The Gala Chair is Steppenwolf Trustee C. Steven McMillan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sara Lee Corporation, and Gala Co-Chair is Steppenwolf Trustee, Donna La Pietra. It is with pride that we salute the Sara Lee Foundation as the Lead Sponsor of Gala 2005. Sara Lee’s pacesetting support for Steppenwolf is legendary – dating back to the 1980s. With the sincerest appreciation we embrace the leadership and support that C. Steven McMillan and Sara Lee continue to bestow upon Steppenwolf.
“I am delighted to serve as Chair of Steppenwolf’s Gala 2005,” said C. Steven McMillan, Sara Lee Corporation Chairman and CEO. “With the world premiere of Lost Land and the music of the Lt. Dan Band, it is sure to be another in what has now become a tradition of spectacular Steppenwolf fundraising events.”
John Malkovich returns as an actor to the Steppenwolf stage in the world premiere of Lost Land by Stephen Jeffreys. Lost Land, produced under an Exclusive Sponsorship by the Sara Lee Foundation, continues a collaboration between John and Stephen that began on the Steppenwolf stage with our production of Stephen’s hit play The Libertine. The extraordinary opportunity to see an acclaimed actor in a new play by one of Britain’s most esteemed playwrights is a unique privilege we offer our Gala attendees.
At the Gala, we will celebrate in a fashion our attendees have come to expect: pizazz, elegance and elements of surprise. We know our guests will be captivated by Steppenwolf’s cutting-edge theater combined with cocktails, dining, dancing and great fun in an unparalleled festive environment. All funds raised from the evening’s festivities will support artistic and educational programming at Steppenwolf. The Steppenwolf family feels a sense of pride not only in the many accomplishments of the theater but also in the steadfast support and generosity of you – our Chicago patrons. We can hardly wait for this night to come.
