Las Locas Comedy is a Chicago-based comedy showcase that highlights Latina/Latinx talent as well as our favorite honorary locas! Fresh off her recent win of HBO Max’s Entre Nos Latino comedy competition, she is now the first Latina from Chicago to be featured on an HBO Comedy Special. More about Las Locas Comedy

Las Locas Comedy is Chicago’s only monthly Latina stand-up comedy show. After attaining a highly-coveted spot at the world-famous Laugh Factory Chicago in 2021 and selling out the first ever Latina Comedy Festival at The Lincoln Lodge in 2022, they have continued to grow their programming to include Latine comedians outside of Chicago.

The words loca (crazy) and chingona (troublemaker), are now modern feminist battle cries among women carving their own paths without regard for those whose feathers may get ruffled along the way. Las Locas Comedy has taken the power back of these words as we use uncensored, hard hitting comedy to celebrate the wonderful locas and chingonas in all of our lives.

In an industry where Latinas represent less than 1% of comics booked at comedy clubs across the country (The Comedy Club Database), Las Locas Comedy has established itself as the primary platform for Latine comics in Chicago. Now, with a growing nation-wide audience and talent pool, they believe the unified fight for representation will create a ripple effect in the comedy scene, propelling underrepresented talent to national comedy clubs and beyond.

We’ve been doing this for six years and while we’ve seen some progress in the industry, Latinas are still extremely underrepresented across the comedy performance landscape. Additionally, there are specific issues facing the Latinx community today that need to be discussed and comedy is a perfect medium for those conversations to take place. Las Locas Comedy wants to be the platform where we can discuss important current events and cultural issues through comedy.
– Las Locas Comedy founder and producer, Janice V. Rodriguez.
