Audience Experience

HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT

Assistant House Managers 

Hours of employment are structured in consideration of performances, which are presented Tuesday through Sunday evenings, with matinees on Saturdays, Sundays and select Wednesdays. Extra shift availability is also occasionally available to support special events and extra programming on Monday evenings, weekdays, and weekend mornings.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is competitive with prevailing compensation for similar positions within the non-profit performing arts industry.  Excellent benefit package offered for part-time employees, including dental and vision insurance, paid sick time, employee assistance program, Ventra Pre-tax Program and a 401(K) matching retirement program.

Audience Services Associate

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates to join its team of highly skilled Audience Services Associates. The position is part-time, and requires approximately 15-25 hours per week, scheduled on a monthly basis. Flexible schedule is necessary to accommodate changing performance schedules. Evening and weekend availability is a must.

Associates provide phone service by day and serve patrons at the box office during matinee and evening performances. As the primary face of STC to patrons, associates are held to the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in customer service.

Required skills/experience:

  • Customer service experience, preferably in a box office or other fast-paced setting
  • Computer proficiency including use of MS Office and web browsers
  • Superior phone skills and confidence interfacing with the public
  • Ability to multi-task and handle complex questions with confidence
  • Experience with ticketing software strongly preferred; Tessitura experience is ideal but not required.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be positive, patient, and good at problem-solving
  • Field inbound calls and handle patron needs promptly and professionally
  • Be able to quickly learn and retain policies and procedures
  • Be able to adapt quickly to changing procedures and new information
  • Have exceptional interpersonal communication skills and strong attention to detail

This position reports to the Audience Services Manager and works as part of a team of trained associates. Paid training will be provided.

Compensation:

This position is $13.50 an hour with excellent benefit package offered for part time employees, including dental and vision insurance, sick time, employee assistance program, pre-tax Ventra transit benefit program and a 401k match retirement program.

DCM Phone Representative

Scenic Carpenter

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Scenic Carpenter.  The Scenic Carpenter works as part of the scenic team and is responsible for constructing scenic elements for productions, collaborating with staff on the build, load-in, and load-out of theatrical scenery, and maintaining a safe work environment.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Working knowledge of power tools and hand tools
  • Knowledge in scenic construction, rigging, automation, and technical drafting
  • Experience in theatrical carpentry, automation, welding, rigging, and sewing
  • Working knowledge with specialized tools in advanced scenic construction, e.g. wood and metal working tools, CNC
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and multi- task
  • Knowledge of safe practices relevant to hazardous waste and MSDS.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry objects weighing 50+ lbs.

Two years of professional carpentry experience is preferred. Candidates with equivalent experience and expertise will be considered.

This position reports to the Technical Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Constructing scenery and set pieces, including mechanically moving pieces, stationary, and flying pieces
  • Collaborating with Technical Director and Scene Shop Supervisor on a regular basis to ensure safe and efficient build, installation, and strike of scenery
  • Reading and interpreting shop drawings
  • Participation in the load-in and strike of productions
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy work and shop environment
  • Performing other duties and responsibility as assigned by Technical Director or Scene Shop Supervisor

Compensation:

Salary Range is $33,000-$35,000. Excellent benefit package offered, including medical, dental, vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, vacation pay, paid sick leave, personal days, pre-tax Ventra program, comp tickets and 401(k) retirement program with company match.
