Audience Experience

HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT

Assistant House Managers and Bartenders

Hours of employment are structured in consideration of performances, which are presented Tuesday through Sunday evenings, with matinees on Saturdays, Sundays and select Wednesdays. Extra shift availability is also occasionally available to support special events and extra programming on Monday evenings, weekdays, and weekend mornings.

Baristas/Food-handlers

Front Bar is open from 8am to midnight Tuesday through Sunday and certain Monday evenings, with peak times before and after performances. Morning/opening, daytime, and evening/closing shifts are all available.

COMPENSATION

This position is hourly and is commensurate with qualification and experience. Audience Outreach Associate

On an ongoing basis, Audience Outreach at Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the position of part-time Audience Outreach Associate. Associates will be responsible for making phone sales of our Season Membership subscription packages and fundraising for our community supported Annual Fund.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate for the position is a knowledgeable and energetic sales and/or fundraising professional with an interest in non-profit theatre.  Applicants must be comfortable soliciting donations and offering membership packages to our patrons over the phone. Previous experience or familiarity with Tessitura is a plus. This role provides associates an amazing opportunity to learn and develop in a world-class theatrical organization.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will exhibit the following traits:

  • Openness to being coached on improving sales techniques and becoming a more positive steward of the theatre
  • Self-Motivation. Successful Associates will contribute to the greater team’s daily and weekly campaign goals
  • Efficiency and understanding of sales software, or ability to be trained in software proficiency

  • Passion an enthusiasm for non-profit theatre and the arts

Compensation and Specifications: 

This position is hourly and is commensurate with qualification and experience. The position requires nights and weekend availability as shifts are Monday – Tuesday 5pm-9pm, Wednesday - Friday 1pm-5pm and Saturday 10am-2:30pm. Shift hours will be added as needed according to staffing and campaign needs. Minimum weekly hours are set at 16 hours per week – maximum would be 26 hours per week.

IT Coordinator

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of IT Coordinator.  The IT Coordinator is responsible for managing Steppenwolf’s IT Help Desk, assisting the IT Administrator with network maintenance and the general service of servers, user workstations, printers, routers, switches, and digital phones. This position reports to the IT Administrator.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot/resolve desktop, laptop, and networking problems and document work using Spiceworks or other documentation tools as needed
  • Serve as Steppenwolf’s main IT Help Desk resource
  • Assist desktop users with software problems: Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Tessitura, MIP Accounting, etc.
  • Resolve printing issues (network and local, including thermal ticket printers and laser printers)
  • Administer e-mail/user accounts and security rights (Active Directory) and shared folder permissions
  • Image, configure, and deploy new desktop workstations, laptops, and printers
  • Troubleshoot server and managed network device problems (including routers, layer 2 & 3 switches, wireless bridges, and fiber circuit connections), with assistance from the IT Administrator as needed
  • Assist with updating and patching workstations
  • Coordinate and prioritize troubleshooting activities with IT Administrator
  • Assist IT Administrator with large scope IT projects, including implementing new network hardware, large-scale software rollouts, etc.
  • Train Steppenwolf staff and new employees in IT as needed
  • Assist with projector and other A/V setup for company events as needed
  • Submit and manage IT Department invoices in our Electronic Requisition software
  • Additional duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Experience working with Windows client operating systems
  • Familiarity with Windows servers and Apple clients preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, especially when working directly with end-users
  • Understanding of basic administration tasks in Microsoft Active Directory
  • Flexible availability to assist in emergencies and occasional “off hours” work
  • Ability to work reliably and efficiently without supervision
  • Experience with Spiceworks, Sharepoint, Office 365, and/or Avaya IP Office is a plus, but not required

Compensation

Salary range: $30,000 - $35,000.  Compensation is competitive with prevailing compensation for similar positions within the non-profit performing arts industry. Properties Artisan

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Properties Artisan.  The Props Artisan works as part of the properties team providing rehearsal and show props, loading shows in and out of the theatre, working within a budget, reporting expenses, archiving shows, maintaining a safe and clean work environment, and keeping prop storage areas tidy and organized.

Responsibilities:

  • This position requires the physical ability to work on a computer and on one’s feet for long periods of time, to occasionally work on ladders and lifts, to lift furniture, boxes, and other items weighing over 25 pounds, and a willingness to work more than 40 hours per week when necessary.
  • Tasks include researching, searching the internet, sewing, upholstery, dressing sets, painting, shopping, light carpentry, digitally creating or modifying paper props, using several different types of materials and techniques for crafting or adapting props, and supervising other props team members.  
  • This is a scene shop-based position but regularly works in other Steppenwolf locations such as the rehearsal hall, theatre, and at various vendors all across Chicagoland. Candidates must have a current, valid driver's license, clean driving record, their own car, and the ability to drive company vans.  
  • Additional duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Experience in light carpentry, sewing, upholstery and painting
  • Proficiency in Photoshop and Microsoft Office
  • An understanding of historical periods and styles
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and multi- task

Three years of professional working experience in props is preferred.  Candidates with equivalent experience and expertise will be considered. This position will start on or about April 22, 2019.

This position reports to the Properties Master.

Compensation:

Salary range: $33,000 - $35,000. Compensation is competitive with prevailing compensation for similar positions within the non-profit performing arts industry.
