Associate Production Manager

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Associate Production Manager.

This position collaborates with the Director of Production to manage operations and administration of all production department activities.  The Associate typically takes a lead Production Manager roll on 2-4 productions each season.

The Associate Production Manager supervises the Production Office Coordinator, 1700 Theatre Technical Coordinator, and supervises and mentors a Production Management Apprentice and three Stage Management Apprentices each season.

This position reports to the Director of Production and collaborates closely with a production management team including Company Manager, Production Office Coordinator, and apprentice.

This position works primarily 9-5 M-F with occasional evenings and weekends for technical rehearsals and special events.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills/traits:

  • Three or more years of professional experience in project/production management for the performing arts, events management, or similar field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, an eye for details and organization, and a strong aptitude for financial accounting
  • Experience drafting and negotiating contracts including familiarity with union agreements (USA, AEA, etc.)  
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse range of collaborators and creative processes and willingness to adapt standard practices to the needs of a given project or team
  • Managing multiple overlapping and on-going projects to high standards within time, human resource, and budgetary constraints
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures within a performing arts environment

 Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Production Manager on 2-4 productions per season – shepherding the design process, aiding shops in value engineering, supporting rehearsal/tech process, running production meetings
  • Negotiate Designer/Consultant agreements
  • Assist in season planning and facilitate maintenance and communication of detailed schedules
  • Manage financial transactions for the production department, including overseeing processing invoices, executing designer/consultant payments and reimbursements, and reconciling all production-related budget lines.
  • Facilitate and participate in production department job searches
  • Mentor and facilitate career growth and training for apprentices and staff
  • Liaise with administrative departments to ensure communication with Production Staff and coordination of shared spaces/resources
  • Participate in long range planning, including the facilitation of a move into a newly constructed theater building (expected summer 2021)
  • Adhere to strict health and safety guidelines and play a leadership role in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Ensure that production work environments are inclusive and respectful for performers, designers, and staff

Compensation:

Salary Range is $42,000-$48,000 (exempt). Compensation is competitive with prevailing compensation for similar positions within the non-profit performing arts industry. Audience Experience

HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT

Assistant House Managers and Bartenders

Hours of employment are structured in consideration of performances, which are presented Tuesday through Sunday evenings, with matinees on Saturdays, Sundays and select Wednesdays. Extra shift availability is also occasionally available to support special events and extra programming on Monday evenings, weekdays, and weekend mornings.

Baristas/Food-handlers

Front Bar is open from 8am to midnight Tuesday through Sunday and certain Monday evenings, with peak times before and after performances. Morning/opening, daytime, and evening/closing shifts are all available.

COMPENSATION

This position is hourly and is commensurate with qualification and experience. Audience Outreach Associate

On an ongoing basis, Audience Outreach at Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the position of part-time Audience Outreach Associate. Associates will be responsible for making phone sales of our Season Membership subscription packages and fundraising for our community supported Annual Fund.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate for the position is a knowledgeable and energetic sales and/or fundraising professional with an interest in non-profit theatre.  Applicants must be comfortable soliciting donations and offering membership packages to our patrons over the phone. Previous experience or familiarity with Tessitura is a plus. This role provides associates an amazing opportunity to learn and develop in a world-class theatrical organization.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will exhibit the following traits:

Compensation and Specifications: 

This position is hourly and is commensurate with qualification and experience. The position requires nights and weekend availability as shifts are Monday – Tuesday 5pm-9pm, Wednesday - Friday 1pm-5pm and Saturday 10am-2:30pm. Shift hours will be added as needed according to staffing and campaign needs. Minimum weekly hours are set at 16 hours per week – maximum would be 26 hours per week.

Audience Services Associate

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates to join its team of highly skilled Audience Services Associates. The position is part-time, and requires approximately 15-25 hours per week, scheduled on a monthly basis. Flexible schedule including some daytime, evening and weekend availability is necessary to accommodate changing performance schedules.

Associates provide phone service by day and serve patrons at the box office during matinee and evening performances. As the primary face of STC to patrons, associates are held to the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in customer service.

Required skills/experience:

  • Customer service experience, preferably in a box office or other fast-paced setting
  • Computer proficiency including use of MS Office and web browsers
  • Superior phone skills and confidence interfacing with the public
  • Ability to multi-task and handle complex questions with confidence
  • Experience with ticketing software strongly preferred; Tessitura experience is ideal but not required.

The successful candidate will:

Part-Time Facilities Staff

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for a part-time facilities staff position. An ideal candidate should have basic knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and drywall/painting. Evening hours and weekend availability, specifically Sundays, is required. This position is supervised by the Facilities Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the facilities staff on daily maintenance needs around the theater
  • First responder to maintenance problems around the theater such as fire alarms, flooding, or other emergencies
  • Setting up and tearing down onsite events
  • Seasonal grounds work and snow removal
  • Capable of working independently on maintenance projects as assigned by supervisors
  • Additional duties as required

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Experience maintaining varied facilities and buildings
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • The ability to be a team player, building relationships between people and departments

Social Media and Communications Assistant

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Social Media and Communications Assistant. This position reports to Senior Communications Director and Senior Marketing Director. Seeking a candidate who is a team player and will be an enthusiastic contributor to the entire Marketing and Communications Department.

Social Media

  • Curate and create content for Steppenwolf’s social channels, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, that embraces the brand, engages followers and generates revenue
  • Curate and create content for Steppenwolf’s Front Bar’s social channels
  • Strive to catapult Steppenwolf’s social media following to increase “x” %, consistently make recommendations with a mix of experimentation and best practices recommendation
  • Develop, coordinate and execute campaign-specific social campaigns in collaboration with PR, Marketing, Creative and external digital ad partners (examples: Capacity Interactive, Bucketlisters, Yelp, etc.)
  • Create dynamic visual content and copy for revenue- brand- and/or mission-driven campaigns
  • Support paid social ad campaigns by pulling CRM lists, keyword research for lookalike audiences, etc., for expanding ad reach to intended prospect audience(s)
  • Manage social content calendars, updating and sharing on a regular basis to coordinate internal team and external partner needs
  • Be an active voice in the strategy and development of Steppenwolf’s organic social media and social media advertising, with an eye toward results (engagement, ROI, KPIs, etc.).
  • Track, analyze and report out weekly in department meetings on social media metrics
  • Actively participate in department meetings, brainstorm new ways to reach audiences through social channels
  • Adhere to brand voice, brand guidelines and creative campaign strategy as set by the Creative Director Manage customer service requests and messages received through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts

Event Planning

  • Curate, organize and oversee VIP social influencer nights for each production 
  • Cultivate relationships with social media influencers for the invite list

Program book

  • Lead the execution of Steppenwolf’s program books (playbills). This includes managing all program book schedules and maintaining deadlines; soliciting, compiling, and editing all copy; rough drafts and communicating edits to the design team.
  • Manage program insert schedules, field incoming stuffer trades and cross-departmental requests.

Website content publishing and editing

  • Support in creating, posting and editing content through multiple Content Management Systems for the front end of our website, maintaining accuracy and relevancy.
  • Responsible for posting and updating cast bios to website in collaboration with PR.
  • Additional general website copy updates as needed.

Misc. / General Support

  • This position provides general support to the entire marketing and communications department on an ongoing basis.
  • This may include coordination or assistance at events including press nights, scheduling meetings, invoice processing and other assigned tasks as needed/time permitting.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of work experience in social media marketing, public relations, or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in new and emerging social media tools and platforms.
  • Strong communications and organizational skills required.
  • Excellent writing skills and a strong attention to detail required.
  • Must be a team player and have a positive attitude.
  • Strong interest in theater and the arts.
