HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT

Assistant House Managers and Bartenders

Hours of employment are structured in consideration of performances, which are presented Tuesday through Sunday evenings, with matinees on Saturdays, Sundays and select Wednesdays. Extra shift availability is also occasionally available to support special events and extra programming on Monday evenings, weekdays, and weekend mornings.

Baristas/Food-handlers

Front Bar is open from 8am to midnight Tuesday through Sunday and certain Monday evenings, with peak times before and after performances. Morning/opening, daytime, and evening/closing shifts are all available.

COMPENSATION

Audience Outreach Associate

On an ongoing basis, Audience Outreach at Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the position of part-time Audience Outreach Associate. Associates will be responsible for making phone sales of our Season Membership subscription packages and fundraising for our community supported Annual Fund.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate for the position is a knowledgeable and energetic sales and/or fundraising professional with an interest in non-profit theatre.  Applicants must be comfortable soliciting donations and offering membership packages to our patrons over the phone. Previous experience or familiarity with Tessitura is a plus. This role provides associates an amazing opportunity to learn and develop in a world-class theatrical organization.

Audience Services Director

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is soliciting applicants for the position of Audience Services Director. The position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and is responsible for leading the smooth operation of Steppenwolf’s Audience Services department (box office, group sales, memberships/subscriptions) to best serve our community of patrons. The ideal candidate is responsible for maintaining the positive, collaborative and forward-moving culture of the department. The Audience Services Director is expected to have a strong sense of best-practices within the ticketing industry while being proactive and innovative in fulfillment of the position requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management and creative problem-solving skills. They will act as advocate for the many areas of the department and fulfill the critical need of directing communication from Audience Services out to other departments, and from other departments back in. Candidates should be resourceful leaders with the ability to think strategically, set priorities, and manage multiple projects at once. They will be comfortable communicating with and working across departments. They will have extensive front-end user experience with Tessitura and be curious and resourceful in finding solutions within the system.

This position directly manages a team of 7 including the Group Sales Coordinator, Membership Manager and Coordinator, Audience Services Manager and Supervisors, and VIP Liaison to Audience Services. It also oversees a part-time box office staff of 10.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is currently using v12.5.1 of Tessitura, with an upgrade plan in place for v15 in the new year.

Essential Functions include (but are not limited to) the following areas:

Tessitura Administration

  • Configure, maintain and innovate around the organization’s Tessitura Ticketing system
  • Act as company-wide Tessitura expert and liaison to Tessitura tech services department, including lead on version updates
  • Serve as Tessitura system administrator for ticketing and marketing areas
  • Create and maintain documentation on organization setup practices and policies
  • Recommend prioritization of Tessitura special projects and customizations

Reporting

Website

  • Serve as ticketing point person for the website and maintain a strong understanding of the intersection between Tessitura and the web

General Ticketing

  • Coordinate ticket system related matters across all departments
  • Oversee ticketing planning, policies and setup for all streams of programming
  • Coordinate implementation of new house scaling, pricing and inventory management initiatives, such as new zoning structures, last-minute inventory filling efforts, dynamic pricing initiatives, etc.
  • Be able to create, apply and track all show initiatives in Tessitura i.e. build productions and packages, apply and edit pricing, apply and manage holds, maintain print-at-home ticketing, etc.

Subscriptions

  • Co-manage subscription renewal campaign. Provide support to full memberships team who manage the season build and rollover for the traditional season subscriptions model, as well as ongoing year-round membership renewal and communication efforts
  • Act as liaison to Marketing, Artistic and Production in communicating about subscriptions timeline, information needs, etc.
  • Work with Marketing and Digital team on website components and print materials

Compensation

Front Bar/Concessions Shift Supervisor

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Shift Supervisor, to support our food and beverage team in providing excellent hospitality at our lobby concessions bars and Front Bar: Coffee and Drinks. The Shift Supervisor will be an integral part of our evening service, ensuring guest satisfaction and supporting the staff. Tasks will vary, but may include resolving customer issues, taking orders and working the register at concessions and barista stations, acting as bar back and occasionally dishwasher, and handling cash deposits and closeouts at the end of the night.

A café and bar concept connected to our existing main lobby at 1700 N Halsted Street, Front Bar is a warm neighborhood hub serving coffee and espresso by La Colombe Coffee Roasters, with food by The Goddess and Grocer available day and night. The bar program focuses on seasonal cocktails, beer and wine, with an emphasis on local and craft products. Front Bar serves the local community, as well as theatregoers during peak times before and after Steppenwolf Theatre performances.

Our lobby concessions program is a thematic extension of Front Bar, providing quality snacks and beverages and efficient service to guests before and during performances.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a part of the Audience Experience team, the Shift Supervisor will support the nightly operations of Front Bar and the concessions bars by:

  • Training and supervising bar and café staff, ensuring service standards for all Baristas and Bartenders
  • Serving in a support role during peak times by serving drinks, running food, bussing tables, polishing glassware, or any other essential tasks as needed
  • Ensuring guest satisfaction, and handling any conflicts or issues that may arise
  • Enforcing and maintaining staff policies
  • Maintaining appropriate staffing and ensuring breaks for staff during shifts
  • Closing out registers and creating nightly deposits
  • Addressing any service, safety, money, maintenance, food, or relevant issues directly

IT Coordinator

Position Description

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of IT Coordinator.  The IT Coordinator is responsible for managing Steppenwolf’s IT Help Desk, assisting the IT Administrator with network maintenance and the general service of servers, user workstations, printers, routers, switches, and digital phones. This position reports to the IT Administrator.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft servers, client operating systems, and backup systems
  • Experience working with networked workstations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Active Directory
  • Flexible availability to assist in emergencies and occasional “off hours” work
  • Ability to work reliably and efficiently without supervision
  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts; familiarity with HP/Netgear switch protocol is a plus, but not required
  • Experience with Spiceworks, Sharepoint, Office 365, and/or Avaya IP Office is a plus, but not required

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot/resolve desktop, laptop, and networking problems and document work using Spiceworks
  • Serve as Steppenwolf’s main IT Help Desk resource
  • Assist desktop users with software problems: Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Tessitura, MIP Accounting, etc.
  • Resolve printing issues (network and local including thermal ticket printers and laser printers)

Marketing Manager

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Marketing Manager. This position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a performing arts organization, or comparable experience. The ideal candidate will have a background in: a) subscription and single ticket marketing; b) sales reporting and analysis; and c) Tessitura or a similar ticketing/CRM system. With over 15,000 Subscribers and various package types from traditional subscription packages (Steppenwolf “classic membership”) to Flexible memberships (“Black Card” and “RED”), this position drives conversation about the evolution of Steppenwolf’s Subscription offerings and package alternatives and executes our year-round membership campaigns. The Marketing Manager leads our data reporting & analysis for sales and audience trends and acts as the Marketing Department Tessitura “expert” staying on top of industry trends, identifying new opportunities for use of the CRM, and arranging internal trainings as needed. Experience with JCA’s Revenue Management Application (RMA) a plus. The Marketing Manager reports to the Senior Marketing Director, supervises the efforts of a Marketing Apprentice, and co-supervises the Audience Outreach Sales Manager.

Video Content Producer

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Video Content Producer. We are looking for someone who loves filmmaking and understands Chicago theatre. Steppenwolf has a legacy of creating highly conceptual digital content to support the marketing needs of the institution. Under the guidance of Steppenwolf’s Creative Director, we are looking to add a team member in order to execute, sustain and grow our original content. This is a highly creative and collaborative position with access to some of the best theatre artists in the world.

The position requires strong video technical skills, high-level communication and organizational expertise. We need a producer who can coordinate with artists, freelancers and staff members, run a video shoot as a camera operator, handle post production editing, finishing and distribution to various platforms and cover general administrative and departmental duties. The ideal candidate can manage multiple projects while thinking ahead to what’s next.

A working expertise in social media platforms is necessary. Our video work lives and travels by these mediums, so crafting the short-form narrative appropriate for each platform is crucial.

A reel, video portfolio or video samples are required as part of the application process for this position.

Day-to-day work includes producing narrative trailers for upcoming productions, creating short-form documentary-based promos for theatrical programming or institutional initiatives, capturing audience testimonials for productions, occasional event photography, operating cinema cameras, editing video content from import to color grade and distribution.

  • High proficiency with non-linear Editing (Final Cut, Premiere, Resolve)
  • Some experience as line producer in a video environment
  • Some familiarity with Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop
  • Be able to communicate and work well with others in a professional environment.
  • Be able to work with multiple departments as well as outside agencies.
  • Work well under pressure
  • Be able to work independently

Compensation:

Salary range: $30,000 - $35,000 with excellent benefit package for full time employees, including medical, dental, vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, vacation pay, paid sick time, personal days, pre-tax Ventra transit benefit program, employee assistance program and 401(k) matching retirement program.
