HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT

Assistant House Managers 

Hours of employment are structured in consideration of performances, which are presented Tuesday through Sunday evenings, with matinees on Saturdays, Sundays and select Wednesdays. Extra shift availability is also occasionally available to support special events and extra programming on Monday evenings, weekdays, and weekend mornings.

COMPENSATION

Campaign Coordinator

Steppenwolf Theatre is in the midst of a $73 million capital campaign to expand and refresh its campus in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. The Campaign Coordinator is a versatile, key member of a high-level, compact team, working with senior leadership to manage and execute activities for the Building on Excellence capital campaign. Reporting to the Campaign Director, the Campaign Coordinator ’s responsibilities will relate to all aspects of the campaign, including donor and prospect strategy and management, communications and marketing, proposal writing and reporting, administrative functions, and event planning.

Qualifications

Steppenwolf Theatre seeks a high-energy, focused, organized, and creative professional who is driven to achieve independently, as well as ready to participate in a collaborative environment.

The ideal candidate will be supremely organized, highly motivated to meet daily deadlines and expand personal horizons, comfortable meeting new people and compelled to develop authentic relationships with prospects and donors, driven to nerd-out about project management and use the written word as a powerful tool of persuasion, energized by uncovering the most meaningful ways to connect to supporters’ values, and ready to say “yes” to the unexpected.

Qualified candidates need experience in project management and knowledge of fundraising. Experience working in donor relations and events is highly persuasive. Tessitura or other fundraising database experience is preferred. A college degree or the equivalent training/experience in administrative functions, project management, written communications, and team-based collaboration is a must. An affinity for theatre and knowledge of capital campaigns is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Live and breathe donor-centricity, ensuring that leadership and team members have the information, materials, and support they need to nurture meaningful, long-term relationships with donors and prospects; participate regularly in strategy development for donors and fundraising goals
  • Organize in detail campaign projects such as travel and events, communications materials and marketing strategies, stewardship and gift-giving, and prospect moves management
  • Prepare agendas and materials as needed for campaign meetings, which include leadership; take minutes and ensure tasks are noted, assigned, and distributed
  • Understand the prospect research process and work with other staff as needed to ensure correct data is tracked in Tessitura and ready for use in developing and executing strategies
  • Manage the campaign proposal and reporting process for individuals, corporate entities, and foundations; provide supplemental materials and narratives for proposals and reports; organize the flow/storage of information and statistics as needed for proposals; and acknowledging gifts
  • Manage the critically important pledge, agreement, and acknowledgement process for contributions and contribute to the realization of extraordinary “thank you’s”
  • Maintain the donor list, naming opportunities portfolio, and other tracking mechanisms as needed; prepare reports as requested
  • Ensure donor recognition expectations are met and, as much as possible, exceeded
  • Manage the creation and maintenance of beautiful and effective campaign communications, such as brochures, appeals, video, web pages, invitations, newsletters, etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality of prospect and donor information

Compensation:

Salary range: $32,000 - $38,000 (non-exempt) with excellent benefit package for full time employees, including medical, dental, vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, vacation pay, paid sick time, personal days, Ventra transit benefit program, employee assistance program and 401(k) matching retirement program.

Facilities Coordinator

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is accepting applications for a Facilities Coordinator position. An ideal candidate should have basic knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and drywall/painting. Evening and weekend availability are required. This position is supervised by the Facilities Manager and Director of Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the facilities staff on daily maintenance needs around the theater
  • First responder to maintenance problems around the theatre such as fire alarms, flooding, or other emergencies
  • Setting up and tearing down onsite events
  • Season grounds work and snow removal
  • Capable of working independently on maintenance projects as assigned by supervisors
  • Coordinate schedules of parking garage and valet parking staff
  • Schedule and supervise security contractor for performances

Qualifications:

  • Experience maintaining varied facilities and buildings
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • The ability to be a team player, building relationships between people and departments
  • Good attention to detail and organizational ability
  • The ability to handle multiple requests and juggle multiple projects
  • Effective communication with supervisor on the status of projects

General Management and Office Coordinator

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of General Management and Office Coordinator. This wide-reaching position requires a self-starter, with a varied and thorough creative problem-solving and data-driven skill set. 

The General Management and Office Coordinator reports directly to the HR Director but works closely with the General Manager, Director of Operations and Finance Director.  The ideal candidate is an individual who is eager to start their Theatre Management career in a regional theatre and has a proven track record of high-level customer service, self-awareness and attention to detail. Key responsibilities include:

General Management

  • Work alongside the General Manager in negotiating, licensing, contracting and processing payments for director and author agreements.
  • Responsible for the timely processing of weekly royalty payments and reports due to artists.
  • Alongside the General Manager and HR Director, support Steppenwolf’s inclusion, diversity, equity, and access work.
  • Support General Manager in all campus expansion activities (e.g. note taking, newsletter creation, communication support).
  • Provide budget creation support to General Manager and oversee departmental tracking and reconciliation process. 
  • Lead efforts in developing and expanding comprehensive departmental and/or organizational systems that result in maximum integration and efficiencies (examples: agreement tracking, artist offer process, dept schedule, conference room reset policies, reconciliation process).
  • When pertinent, assist with items related to the other departments under the GM umbrella that are not noted here (Finance, IT, Facilities, and Food and Beverage).

HR

  • Assist with the coordination of various company-wide social events. 
  • Coordinate administrative volunteer program.
  • Manage various staff awards and application processes during the year, when applicable.
  • Assist HR Director with the hiring process, including submitting job postings online and scheduling candidate interviews.

Office Management

  • Responsible for the staffing and coverage of the front desk. (Steppenwolf’s apprentices/interns also participate in covering front desk shifts). 
  • Communicate with staff about office policies and updates
  • Maintain office equipment, such as mail machines and printers.
  • Manage the acceptance of packages and inquiries (phone and in person) at the front desk
  • Order general office and kitchen supplies and oversee that budget.
  • Coordinate kitchen cleanings with staff and facilities team.
  • Alongside the Theatre Management intern, process ticket donation requests
  • Process invoices when applicable and support the distribution of accounts payable checks.

Overhire Scenic Carpenter

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Overhire Scenic Carpenter.  The Overhire Scenic Carpenter works as part of the scenic team and is responsible for constructing scenic elements for productions, collaborating with staff on the build, load-in, and load-out of theatrical scenery, and maintaining a safe work environment.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Working knowledge of power tools and hand tools
  • Knowledge in scenic construction, rigging, automation, and technical drafting
  • Experience in theatrical carpentry, automation, welding, rigging, and sewing
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and multi- task
  • Knowledge of safe practices relevant to hazardous waste and MSDS.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry objects weighing 50+ lbs.

Two years of professional carpentry experience is preferred. Candidates with equivalent experience and expertise will be considered.

This position reports to the Technical Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Constructing scenery and set pieces, including mechanically moving pieces, stationary, and flying pieces
  • Collaborating with Technical Director and Scene Shop Supervisor on a regular basis to ensure safe and efficient build, installation, and strike of scenery
  • Reading and interpreting shop drawings
  • Participation in the load-in and strike of productions
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy work and shop environment
  • Performing other duties and responsibility as assigned by Technical Director or Scene Shop Supervisor.

Compensation:

$16/hr
