About This Show

Fresh from its appearances in the 8th International Theatre Olympics in India, The Brink! is returning to Chicago for a special weekend engagement in Steppenwolf's LookOut Series at the 1700 Theatre.

In a cafe at the edge of the world, a group of wayward performers present The Brink!, an avant-garde cabaret about longing and music, growing up and falling apart; about the ground beneath us shifting too quickly, and the world becoming unrecognizable. Drawing from American pop songs and jazz standards, the poetry of Gertrude Stein, and Ann Carson's "The Gender of Sound", the ensemble slides past the edge of reason in this unfettered encounter with the stranger inside.

Created as part of the National Performance Network Creation Fund Initiative, THE BRINK! was developed in partnership with Links Hall, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, Darthmouth College/VoxFest and the Cricoteka Centre in Krakow, Poland.

There will be a special preview performance on Thursday, August 23 at 7:30pm for only $15.
