11 GROUNDBREAKING SHOWS PLUS A NEW PROGRAM FOCUSING ON IN-PROGRESS WORK
Our Winter 2022-2023 season featured the work of some of Chicago's exciting experimental devisers, choreographers and performers. Highlights included: Before Winter, a haunting piece of experimental theater by Tony Kunst; An intimate circus show by Company to X for that takes a daring look at queer friendship; and Dogs or Cats; Augmented Body, an interdisciplinary puppetry show by Jaerin Son. LookOut's winter season also features percussion ensemble Beyond This Point, an experimental opera by Corey Smith and more!
Additionally, we launched a curatorial residency program, offering an opportunity for an up-and-coming Chicago practitioners to curate a series of performances over a two week span in February. For the launch of this program, curators Kara Brody & Amanda Maraist chose to spotlight three movement makers–Cat Mahari, Tuli Bera, and Drew Lewis–in a series titled: work around.
Curated by Kara Brody & Amanda Maraist
Built from a need for more support towards creative processes, work around aimed to redirect the desire for finished products by allocating resources towards developmental stages of artists’ work.
The LookOut team is always interested in making new connections and hearing what you're working on; inquiries and invitations to see work are welcome and can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note: our fall programming calendar is currently full but we are happy to meet with prospective artist who want to learn more about the series.
As a multidisciplinary performance series, we are primarily interested in connecting with Chicago-based artists who have an existing body of presentable work. We are particularly interested in offering a platform to artists representing historically marginalized communities and programming work that incorporates diversity across genre, form, and perspective. We do not accept unsolicited full-length scripts.
