An investment in American Theatre

Since its incorporation in 1975, Steppenwolf has experienced phenomenal growth. Today, Steppenwolf has a nationally recognized new play development program and three performance spaces in Chicago — our unique Downstairs, Upstairs and 1700 Theaters. Steppenwolf is an ambassador of Chicago with productions in cities all over the world and also invests in its local community through programs for children and families. The future that we envision for Steppenwolf requires critical funds to invest in the development of new theatrical works, continued artistic excellence and financial stability.

Endowment funds are a vital factor in the economic health of all our major cultural and educational institutions. At Steppenwolf, only 50% of our annual operating expenses are met by ticket sales. Our Annual Fund drive raises generous donations from our subscribers and the philanthropic community each year. As with all nonprofits, an endowment will ensure the long-term financial health and stability of Steppenwolf beyond each year and into the future.

The principal of the Steppenwolf Theatre Endowment Fund is carefully invested, while the interest generated supports Steppenwolf's artistic and educational programs on an annual basis. All endowment gifts make a difference because taken together they form a strong foundation that continues to grow for years to come.

You can help secure Steppenwolf's future by making an outright gift of cash or securities, or a planned gift to the Steppenwolf Theatre Endowment Fund. Your gift will mean that Steppenwolf can continue to nurture new artists, to create new works and to maintain an artistic home for some of the most acclaimed actors and directors in America.
