Tyrone Phillips is the founding Artistic Director of Definition Theatre Company and Artistic Assistant at Writers Theatre. Named one of Chris Jones’ “Hot New Faces of 2015” he is a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Directing credits include Byhalia, Mississippi (co-production The New Colony), Dutchman (Definition Theatre Company) and Amuze Bash (Pavement Group). Acting credits include A Doll’s House, Genesis, The Brothers’ Size (Definition Theatre Company); George Orwell’s 1984 (Steppenwolf Theatre Company); Stick Fly (Windy City Playhouse) West Side Story (Assembly Hall); Speech and Debate (Station Theatre); Assassins, A Christmas Carol, A Raisin in the Sun, understudying The Mountaintop, understudying Clybourne Park (Milwaukee Repertory Theatre); and Saturday Night/Sunday Morning (Prologue Theatre Company); in the Steppenwolf Garage. Tyrone studied abroad at Shakespeare’s Globe and served as an artistic intern at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre.
