Michael Patrick Thornton

Michael Patrick Thornton is artistic director/ co-founder of The Gift Theatre. In addition to directing at Gift, Second City, Collaboration and Noble Fool, Michael was a very grateful assistant director on Steppenwolf’s August: Osage County/. Selected acting credits include: The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (The Gift/Victory Gardens), The Good Thief directed by Gift ensemble member John Gawlik (Gift, Joseph Jefferson Award), Without (Goodman: New Plays Series), Suicide, Inc. (Steppenwolf First Look), Cherry Docs (Next), A Skull in Connemara (Northlight) and Boys' Life (Gift). Michael is the recipient of Northlight’s Jack Springer Award for Outstanding Performance, The Tim & Helen Coburn Meier Foundation Achievement Award, The Second City Foundation’s Jim Zulevic Chicago Arts Award and The Joseph Jefferson Award for Solo Performance. A graduate of The School at Steppenwolf and The Second City Conservatory, Michael teaches at Second City. Thank you Hallie, Sheldon, Martha, Erica and Jeff for the opportunities and trust.
