The Summer Internship

THE STEPPENWOLF THEATRE COMPANY SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM is ideal for students looking for an introduction to professional theater administration and production. These students receive credit from their learning institutions while gaining hands–on experience with some of the top professionals in American Theatre. The summer internship last for three months.

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Current undergraduate, or have equivalent professional experience
  • Availability to commit to a 3-month program
  • Reside in, or able to relocate to, Chicago

Requirements

To apply for The Summer Internship, it is important to submit all components of the application together. A completed application includes the following:

  • A completed Application Form
  • A Resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • Cover letter
  • Two letters of recommendation (must be submitted on original letterhead)
  • Personal Statement which discusses the following:
    • Your long term professional goals
    • How you feel you will be benefited by the program
    • How you feel about working and living in Chicago
    • Any unique contribution you will bring to Steppenwolf Theatre Company

The summer 2009 internship will run during the following dates per department:

Administrative, Production Management and some Production departments:
(Artistic, Casting, Literary, Development/Fundraising, Marketing, Publicity, School at Steppenwolf, Steppenwolf for Young Adults, Theater Management, Electrics, Properties, Scenic Carpentry, Sound): June 1 through August 28, 2009
Other production departments (these interns still attend orientation on June 1 if possible):
Stage Management: June 16 through August 16, 2009
Wardrobe: July 14 through August 19, 2009

Exact start and end dates may be flexible.

All applicants should submit their completed application by February 15, 2009.

All applications will go through a preliminary screening process to determine the final candidates. Final candidates will be asked to interview in March. It is strongly encouraged that candidates who do not live locally visit both Chicago and Steppenwolf when interviewing. Phone interviews are available.
