The Apprenticeship

THE STEPPENWOLF THEATRE COMPANY APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM is geared towards young professionals who are looking to bridge the gap between their education and the professional world. They will work closely with our staff to learn about the workings of their department and throughout their time here they will gain necessary skills and understanding to be the best candidates being introduced in the field. The Apprenticeship is a nine month long program.

Compensation

During their tenure, Apprentices receive:

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Earned a baccalaureate, or have equivalent professional experience
  • Availability to commit to a 9-month program
  • Reside in, or able to relocate to, Chicago

Requirements

To apply for The Apprenticeship, it is important to submit all components of the application together. A completed application includes the following:

  • A completed Application Form
  • A Resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • Cover letter
  • Two letters of recommendation (must be submitted on original letterhead)
  • Personal Statement which discusses the following:
    • Your long term professional goals
    • How you feel you will be benefited by the program
    • How you feel about working and living in Chicago
    • Any unique contribution you will bring to Steppenwolf Theatre Company

The 2009-2010 apprenticeship will run from August 31, 2009 - May 28, 2010.

All applicants should submit their completed application by March 15, 2009.

All applications will go through a preliminary screening process to determine the final candidates. Final candidates will be asked to interview in April. It is strongly encouraged that candidates who do not live locally visit both Chicago and Steppenwolf when interviewing. Phone interviews are available.
