Eligibility

All professional and student actors with a high school diploma are encouraged to apply.

Application deadline

Applications for Summer 2008 must be postmarked by February 15, 2008.

Auditions

Auditions will be held in Chicago, New York City and San Francisco. Audition dates are subject to change. Upon evaluation of application, applicants will be assigned an audition day and time. If you are selected for an audition, you will receive an instruction packet containing audition material and guidelines. At a minimum, all applicants attending the auditions will be required to present a contemporary monologue of their choice.

Tuition

Tuition for the summer program is $3,000.00. Tuition covers all classes. Students are responsible for obtaining their own room and board. One third shall be due upon acceptance into the program. The remaining balance is due one week prior to the start of classes. No actor will be permitted to begin classes without full payment of the $3,000 tuition. Through the end of the second week of the residency, should an actor need to withdraw from the program due to illness or emergency, with written documentation, the $3,000 tuition, less money for the week(s) already spent in class, shall be refunded. No payment shall be refunded after the end of the second week of the program. All payments are to be made by credit card or by certified check or money order made payable to Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Personal checks are not accepted.

Scholarships

Some scholarship money is available. Decisions will be entirely need–based.

The Application

All applicants will be notified of their status regarding auditions no later than three weeks following the application deadline. Notification of acceptance into the program will occur in mid-April. Download the Application.
