INTERNSHIP, APPRENTICESHIP, AND FELLOWSHIP

Our Professional Leadership Programs offer opportunities for students, graduates, and early-career professionals to experience the inner-workings of a professional theatre from every angle. Each of these programs includes a uniquely hands-on experience coupled with mentorship and professional development.

Important Dates

Internships
The application for the Summer 2023 Steppenwolf Internship is now closed. We will open applications for our Summer 2024 internship in November 2023. Please feel free to reach out to leadership@steppenwolf.org with further questions.

Apprenticeships & Fellowships
Unfortunately, we will not be hosting apprentices and fellows in the 2023/2024 season. We are still in the process of finalizing details about the program for the 2024/2025 season, and will update the website with more information next winter. Thank you for checking back at that time for further information and for your continued interest in Steppenwolf.

The Internship is perfect for early-career professionals in Chicago and the surrounding neighborhoods looking for an introduction to arts administration and production. This program provides direct connections to Steppenwolf staff and an opportunity to get hands on experience within the theatre industry.

The Apprenticeship is a paid training program for early-career arts administrators or theatre production practitioners. Apprentices receive immersive practical learning experiences and opportunities to attend professional development seminars all while working as a part of a team with Steppenwolf's staff.

The Fellowship is a leadership development program for early-career people of color. Fellows will hold an apprenticeship in their department of interest while being given additional paid professional development opportunities both in and out of Steppenwolf Theatre. Through hands-on experience, externship opportunities, mentorship and career-guidance, Fellows are given the tools to become leaders in the field.
