STEPPENWOLF MERLE RESKIN GARAGE THEATRE
THE GARAGE THEATRE, the company's most intimate performance space, is the converted first floor of Steppenwolf’s Parking Garage located at 1624 N. Halsted. The Steppenwolf Garage Theatre showcases the work of the best new voices in the American theater.
Some of the memorable productions in the Garage include Adam Rapp's Red Light Winter which is currently playing off-Broadway at the Barrow Street Theater, ensemble member Austin Pendleton's Orson's Shadow, which played both regionally and off-Broadway; Until We Find Each Other, Brooke Berman's play, directed by ensemble member Anna D. Shapiro, featured a cast comprised entirely of students from The School at Steppenwolf; Craig Wright's Orange Flower Water, directed by ensemble member Rick Snyder, traveled to the Galway Arts Festival in Ireland; ensemble member Tina Landau's Theatrical Essays, created with a company of actors, was cited by New City as The Best Theater Production of 2004.
The First Look Repertory of New Work is held annually in the Garage. First Look continues Steppenwolf’s commitment to new plays for the American theater: three exciting productions presented in rotating repertory, accompanied by a series of readings, lectures and events around the development of new work.
Visiting companies in residence in the Garage Theatre have included Curious Theatre Branch, The Hypocrites, Prop Thtr., Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, and Roadworks Productions.
