THE VISITING COMPANY INITIATIVE
STEPPENWOLF'S VISITING COMPANY INITIATIVE provides the opportunity for other theater companies to present work in all three of our theaters. These residencies are supported by the artists and staff at Steppenwolf. In creating relationships with Visiting Companies, Steppenwolf enriches the artistic dialogue among its artists and audiences.
Visiting companies in residence in the Garage Theatre have included Curious Theatre Branch, Prop Thtr., Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, and Roadworks Productions.
The Upstairs Theatre, formerly the Steppenwolf Studio, has hosted a number of acclaimed Chicago theaters, including City Lit Theatre, European Repertory Theatre, Latino Chicago Theater Company, Lookingglass Theatre Company, Naked Eye Theatre Company, Roadworks Productions, Second Stage Theatre and TurnAround Theatre. Redmoon Theater Company has presented world premiere adaptations such as Frankenstein, Hunchback, Unbinding Isaac and Seagull. About Face Theatre presented the Midwest premiere of Take Me Out, the world premieres of Theater District and the Jeff-winning musical Winesburg, Ohio, first produced in a one-act version under Steppenwolf for Young Adults.
The Downstairs Theatre has also presented co-productions with visiting companies, such as The Wedding Band, produced with Congo Square Theatre Company, and Tennessee Williams' One Arm, presented by Steppenwolf Theatre Company, About Face Theatre and Tectonic Theater Project. The expansion of the subscription series into the Steppenwolf Upstairs Theatre allows for more co-productions from visiting companies in the Steppenwolf Downstairs Theatre.
Visiting Company proposals are currently being accepted for the 2007/2008 season. Proposals should be sent to the attention of Associate Artistic Director David New by December 1st, 2006. For further information, or if you have any questions, please contact the Artistic Intern at 312-654-5610.
