Steppenwolf
BACKSTAGENEW PLAYS INITIATIVE

STEPPENWOLF IS COMMITTED TO MEETING DISTINCTIVE ARTISTIC CHALLENGES, and is recognized as a national leader in the development and production of new work for the American canon. Through its New Plays Initiative, the company maintains ongoing relationships with writers of international prominence such as Sam Shepard and Tony Kushner, and rigorously discovers and supports the work of early and mid-career playwrights.

Through readings and workshops, Steppenwolf has helped develop works by writers such as Adam Rapp, Melissa James Gibson, Migdalia Cruz, Dominic Taylor, Kira Obolensky, Bruce Norris, Erin Cressida Wilson, Nambi Kelley, David Van Matre, Jane Jones, Lisa Dillman, Eric Simonson and Jeffrey Hatcher.

The NPI has developed many works that have been given their world premieres by Steppenwolf.
