Phillip Edward Vanlear makes his Steppenwolf debut in
The Bluest Eye. A twenty year veteran of Chicago stage, television and radio, Mr. VanLear was last seen as Robert in the Goodman Theatre's production of
Proof. His recent theatre and film credits include
Good Boys at Chicago Theatre Company,
In The Blood at Next,
The Lady from Dubuque at Touchstone/Organic and Mr. Diggs in
Barber Shop 2. He will also be seen as Officer Polk in the upcoming Fox network pilot
Prison Break. Mr. VanLear is a performance poet and a regular at Chicago's Green Mill. He also teaches for the Chicago Public Schools at Mather High School, where he coaches basketball and track. His greatest accomplishments to date however are his four beautiful children, "who serve as constant reminders of what is essential and true."
